![]() ![]() Once we were in the restaurant we got to see what some of the hype was about. We were greeted in a room that appeared to just be a small room. As we entered the establishment it started tantalizing our curiosity making us wonder what adventures and fun we'd experience for going to a "restaurant". I've heard about it for years including when it's been on food and travel shows. ![]() *I will not give away secrets in this review - the unknown is what makes it fun* I went with my wife, sister, & brother-in-law for the first time to the Safe House. Huh? We will think hard before we return on our next trip to town. 3 of 4 adults ordered "specialty" cocktails they the server refused to let us order another one because they need to use the same glass. The food (steak sandwich, chicken sandwich, French dip, and kids meals) were mediocre at best. Once we were seated, it took a full 17 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us, and another 10 minutes past that to get drink orders even taken. We waited 15 minutes past our reservation time for our table (right inside the door - we could see it sitting set and ready from the time we got in). The service from the front desk once we got into the actual restaurant to the server for our table was terrible. I am hoping when I took my husband, kids and friends there this visit they were just having an off night. For a place that's been around so long, we were really disappointed with the service.I used to go to the Safe House regularly when I was in college in Milwaukee in the late 90's. They have a unique place and have created a destination point. They definetly need to update many things. It was serioulsy painful, probably as much as reading this. They could turn tables so much faster if they could improve on their service. We were in there for two and a half hours for lunch. The place wasn't even that crowded, so it was hard to understand what was going on. So we sat and waited for our server to come back to correct our bill. The 2 appetizers were still on the check. Finally, after getting up and asking the reception desk, did we get our check. No refills, no one to clear our table, it was crazy. ![]() We were done and couldn't find our server to bring our check. We said we were no longer interested in an appetizer after we were almost done with our lunch. Our server said she would put our appetizer order in. Our lunch came out and we never got our appetizers. We told our server after we got our food, since someone else brought our meal. We ordered appetizers and made them take our lunch order at the same time, fearfull, they would never return. I had to get up and ask someone to take our order. No one came back to take our order after we got our drinks. Meanwhile we have three kids that are getting anxious. We didn't even order mixed drinks, just sodas. It took forever for someone to come to take our drink order. We all enjoyed it since it was our first time so it was no big deal waiting for our table. Understandable, we waited for a table, since it was a weekend and a little after lunch hour. There is a lot of waiting at the Safe House. It was a fun afternoon and really unique to visit. This is about an experience. Our grandchildren loved the experience! From walking down the alley, to the unmarked entrance, getting in the door, etc.
